Read your medicine pack: expiry date, batch number and storage conditions

Small print on the pack that tells you a lot about whether a medicine is safe to use.

Before taking any medicine, take a minute to read the pack. It holds useful information that people often skip.

What to look for

  • Expiry date (EXP): don’t use the medicine after it. Some forms, like eye drops, have a shorter life once opened.
  • Batch or lot number: keep it if you notice an unusual side effect. It helps trace the problem.
  • Storage conditions: such as “store below 25 °C” or “store in a refrigerator”.
  • Active ingredient and strength: useful if you need an alternative.

If the pack is damaged, has no leaflet, or the details are unclear, ask your pharmacist before using it.
